Surface dusting

Common Defects & Damage Types
Surface dusting Surface dusting is the formation of a loose, powdery layer on hardened concrete caused by a weak or poorly bonded surface. Fine dust is released when the surface is walked on or disturbed.

Dusting may result from improper finishing, excessive water in the concrete mix, inadequate curing, or early exposure to traffic. Although the defect initially affects only the surface, continued wear can gradually expose stronger concrete beneath. Appropriate repair depends on the severity of the condition.
