Scaling Scaling is the gradual loss of a thin surface layer of concrete through peeling or flaking. The damage usually affects the surface finish before the underlying concrete.

Scaling commonly results from freeze-thaw exposure, improper finishing, or insufficient curing of fresh concrete. Over time, the roughened surface becomes more vulnerable to moisture penetration and additional weather damage. Early maintenance can help slow further deterioration.
