Property owners disputing the amount or quality of a city-administered sidewalk repair can, under Administrative Code § 19-152, file a claim with the Comptroller's Office before pursuing a formal petition to review the charge. Separately, this office handles Notices of Claim from people injured on sidewalks where the City of New York — rather than a private property owner — may be liable, such as in front of certain owner-occupied 1-, 2-, or 3-family homes. Both processes involve strict filing deadlines that are easy to miss without prompt action.
