DOT is the agency a property owner interacts with most throughout the sidewalk repair process: it inspects for substantial defects under Administrative Code § 19-152, mails the Notice of Sidewalk Violation and Preliminary Inspection Report, issues the construction permit needed to fix cited flags, and performs the final dismissal inspection. DOT also sets the technical specifications — flag size, slope, joint spacing, concrete strength — that any compliant repair must meet across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Nearly every term in this glossary connects back to a DOT process, notice, or standard in some way.
