Corner (intersection) quadrant

Legal Framework, Liability & Claims
Corner (intersection) quadrant The curved or angled section of sidewalk at a street corner where two sidewalks meet. NYC law makes the corner property owner responsible for this quadrant, including its pedestrian ramps.

Section 7-210 expressly includes the intersection quadrant in the corner owner's maintenance duty, ending old disputes about who answered for the rounded area between two frontages. Corner lots therefore carry more sidewalk exposure than mid-block lots: two street frontages plus the quadrant connecting them, an area with heavy foot traffic and, often, curb ramps and utility hardware. Note that curb ramps themselves involve overlapping City responsibilities, but the surrounding flags remain the owner's problem. Corner owners in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan should budget for this larger footprint when planning repairs.
