Water-cement ratio

Concrete & Paving Materials
Water-cement ratio The water-cement ratio is the proportion of water compared with cement in a concrete mix. It strongly influences the concrete's strength, durability, and permeability.

Adding too much water makes concrete easier to place but can reduce its final strength and increase the likelihood of cracking or moisture penetration. Too little water may make the concrete difficult to work with and finish properly. Designers specify an appropriate water-cement ratio to balance workability with long-term performance.
