Honeycombing

Common Defects & Damage Types
Honeycombing Honeycombing is a concrete defect characterized by visible voids and exposed aggregate caused by incomplete consolidation during placement. The finished surface resembles a honeycomb.

Honeycombing usually results from inadequate vibration, congested reinforcement, or improper placement techniques. The resulting voids reduce concrete density and may allow moisture to penetrate more easily. Depending on the severity, repairs may range from localized patching to replacement of affected sections.
