Float finish

Repair, Replacement & Construction Methods
Float finish A textured concrete finish achieved by using a wood or magnesium tool called a "float" to smooth out screed ridges and embed large stones.

Floating is done before troweling and leaves a slightly coarse, matte texture. It helps open up the concrete surface to allow excess bleed water to escape, preventing the top layer from scaling off later. For some municipal or heavy-pedestrian areas, a coarse float finish is preferred for its natural, slip-resistant grip.
