Although most often associated with asphalt pavement, alligator cracking signals that the pavement structure has weakened and can no longer adequately support applied loads. The condition may result from repeated traffic, inadequate foundation support, or long-term deterioration. Localized patching alone is often insufficient if the underlying structural problem remains.
