75-Day repair window

DOT Sidewalk Violations & Enforcement
75-Day repair window The 75 calendar days a property owner has to fix a cited sidewalk defect after receiving a Notice of Sidewalk Violation, before DOT can step in and bill the owner.

The 75-day clock starts on the date the certified-mail receipt shows delivery, or the posting date if mail delivery fails, and it runs the same in winter as in summer — a sidewalk permit does not pause it. Missing the deadline lets DOT hire its own contractor, with the Department of Finance then billing the owner under Administrative Code § 19-152. Because permitting, material ordering, and weather can eat up weeks, most owners start the process immediately rather than waiting.
