NYC Sidewalk Replacement

DOT-licensed sidewalk contractors with 30+ years of experience, a 4.9-star rating, and 4,700+ completed projects across NYC. A patched crack only buys you a season; once a slab has heaved, sunk, or cracked past repair, we remove it down to the subgrade and pour a new sidewalk built to full NYC DOT specification, from the base course up.

What We Handle

Signs Your Sidewalk Needs Full Replacement

We give you a straight answer on this at the free inspection. If a partial repair will genuinely hold, we tell you that instead of selling a full replacement you don't need.

01

Cracked in Three or More Places

Cracks wider than ½ inch or spreading across the flag mean the slab has lost structural integrity. Patch material won't bond right on top of that.

02

Sinking or Heaving Over ¾ of Flag

Usually means the subgrade underneath has failed, not just the surface. A surface patch won't fix a subgrade problem.

03

Multiple Adjacent Damaged Flags

One bad flag can be repaired on its own. Three or four in a row usually points to a drainage or subgrade issue that spot-patching won't solve.

04

Recurring Tree Root Damage

If a flag has already been repaired once for root lift and it's heaving again, the root is still active underneath, and a second repair will fail again within a year or two.

How It Works

From Inspection to DOT Sign-Off, Our Simple Hassle-Free Process

01

Free Estimate & Permit Filing

Send photos or schedule a free on-site inspection. You'll get a written estimate within 24 hours. Once you approve, we file the correct permit package under our own DOT Permittee ID. Standard sidewalk construction permits typically clear in 3–4 business days, longer if a curb cut or engineer sign-off applies.

02

Removal, Subgrade Prep & Pour

We break out and haul away the full damaged flag, not just the top layer. The exposed subgrade is inspected and corrected if needed, then a minimum 6-inch compacted base goes down before forms are set. Concrete is poured to spec thickness and PSI, with reinforcement where required, then finished with control joints, expansion joints, and a broom surface.

03

Curing & Final DOT Inspection

The new slab cures fully before it's opened to foot traffic. We don't rush this to close a job faster. Once cured, the work is inspected against DOT standards, and if it's tied to an active violation, we coordinate the reinspection directly with DOT so it's formally cleared, not just physically fixed. The site is swept and cleared on completion.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to replace my sidewalk in NYC? +

Yes. Any sidewalk replacement requires a construction permit from NYC DOT, filed through a proper application. Projects involving a driveway or requiring equipment to cross the sidewalk without an existing curb cut need additional permits. We handle all of this under our own DOT Permittee ID.

How thick does my new sidewalk need to be? +

Standard residential sidewalks are 4 inches thick on a 6-inch compacted base. Sections crossing a driveway need to be 7 inches thick with steel mesh reinforcement. Commercial frontage can require up to 8 inches depending on load.

How much does sidewalk replacement cost in NYC? +

Residential replacement runs $1,700–$2,500 per slab. Commercial replacement runs $9,000–$12,500 per slab given the reinforced, heavy-traffic spec. Curb and apron work is $18–$100 per linear foot. Final cost depends on square footage, subgrade condition, and site access.

How long does a full replacement take? +

Once permits are clear (typically 3–4 business days), most single- or multi-slab replacements take 1–3 days to pour, plus a curing period before the sidewalk is opened to full foot traffic.

Will the replacement clear my DOT violation? +

Yes. Once the replacement is inspected and passes, we coordinate the reinspection directly with DOT so the violation is formally cleared, not just physically fixed.

What if only part of my sidewalk is damaged? +

We'll tell you honestly at the free inspection if a partial repair will hold instead of pushing a full replacement you don't need.

Are you licensed to perform sidewalk replacement in NYC? +

Yes. DOT-licensed, OSHA-certified, and authorized by NYC DOB, DCA, and NYC Parks, with full general liability and workers' compensation insurance.
