While power trowels are highly efficient for smoothing large industrial warehouse floors, their use on standard NYC public sidewalks is limited. Over-troweling with a power machine can create a glass-slick finish that presents a severe slip hazard for pedestrians. If a power trowel is used to consolidate a sidewalk pour, contractors must follow it up with a manual broom finish to ensure the walkway achieves the slip-resistant texture mandated by the NYC DOT.
