This happens most often right after a property sale, when city records haven't yet updated to reflect the new owner, or when a violation is filed against a neighboring lot by mistake. The remedy is to contact 311 or the DOT sidewalk unit with proof of ownership (a deed or closing statement) so the record can be corrected rather than ignored. Simply not responding can let the violation sit unresolved and eventually affect the correct owner's title once records catch up, so it's worth addressing quickly even if the notice seems misdirected.
