Edge break

Common Defects & Damage Types
Edge break An edge break is damage occurring along the outer edge of a concrete slab where pieces chip, crack, or separate from the main pavement. The defect weakens the slab perimeter.

Edge breaks often develop because of inadequate support, repeated loading near the slab edge, freeze-thaw cycles, or impact damage. If left unrepaired, the damaged edge may continue breaking away and allow additional moisture infiltration. Repairs depend on the extent of the deterioration.
