311 is the primary channel property owners and the public use for anything sidewalk-related: reporting a broken or collapsed sidewalk, requesting a construction permit by phone, scheduling a dismissal or re-inspection, or simply asking about an open violation's status. Requests are logged with a service ticket number, which is worth saving in case you need to follow up. For property owners mid-repair, calling 311 promptly after work is finished is the step that actually gets a violation closed — the repair itself doesn't clear the record automatically.
